Integrated GRC & Audit
Define the Control Once. Prove It from the Work Itself.
Integrated GRC & Audit keeps the control library, the audit programme and the findings register in iShieldGRC, and lets the operational records that technology teams already keep — approved changes, supplier assessments, risk exceptions — become the evidence that a control actually operated.
One control library and one evidence record for audit and assurance across the frameworks your organization adopts.
Who leads, who contributes

- ContributoriShield Nexus
- ContributoriShield Link
Control library and obligation mapping, policy lifecycle, audit planning and fieldwork, findings and actions, regulatory change and the third-party risk programme.
The enterprise challenge
Audit asks for proof. Operations already holds it.
Most audit cycles begin with a request list and end with screenshots. Control owners rebuild evidence that already exists in change approvals, supplier reviews and exception decisions, because those records live in operational tools that the audit programme cannot see.
An integrated model separates two jobs that are often confused. The governance platform defines what a control is, which obligations it serves and how it is tested. The operating platforms record what people actually did. When the second feeds the first through accepted, traceable links, testing becomes a review of real work rather than a reconstruction of it.
Where iShield Nexus contributes
iShield Nexus contributes technology risk records, operational evidence and reporting through Risk & Compliance, Change Management, Vendor Management and Analytics Hub. iShieldGRC, a separate related offering of iShield GRC Ltd., leads the control library, audit lifecycle and findings register.
The Nexus angle
Technology controls evidence is collected manually before audits instead of from operational records.
- Audit preparation consumes weeks
- Exceptions outlive their purpose
- Supplier risk is unclear
Solution overview. Unify risk registers, control libraries, audit programs and third-party risk on iShieldGRC. Controls can be mapped across the frameworks your organization adopts, such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF, NCA ECC, SAMA CSF, SOC 2, PCI-DSS and DORA.
Buyer challenges
Evidence rebuilt every cycle
Control owners collect the same approvals and reports again for each audit, framework and regulator, because nothing links the original record to the control it proves.
Controls tested on paper
Design is documented carefully, but whether the control operated across the period is inferred from a small sample gathered after the fact.
Findings that never close
Issues are raised without a named owner, a due date or a link to the corrective change, so the same finding returns in the next cycle.
Supplier risk seen at audit time
Third-party assessments sit in procurement files, and the audit programme learns about an overdue reassessment only when it samples the supplier.
Decision owners
- Chief audit executive
- The audit plan, scope, sampling approach and the final opinion on each engagement.
- Head of compliance
- Which obligations each control serves and when a mapping is changed after a framework update.
- Technology risk owner
- Whether a technology risk is treated, transferred or accepted as a time-bound exception.
- Change and vendor managers
- The integrity of the operational records their teams keep — the records audit relies on.
Who leads, who contributes, and where each stops
This is a cross-product solution. Each platform keeps its own responsibility and boundary; none is presented as a module of another.
Owns
Control library and obligation mapping, policy lifecycle, audit planning and fieldwork, findings and actions, regulatory change and the third-party risk programme.
Boundary
Does not run IT service, change or operational workflows; it consumes their records as evidence.
- iShield NexusContributor
Owns
Technology risk register, policy exceptions with expiry, evidence suggestions for IT controls, change approval records, supplier assessments and control-status reporting.
Boundary
Does not hold the enterprise control library or issue audit opinions; Nexus Risk & Compliance complements iShieldGRC and never replaces it.
- iShield LinkContributor
Owns
Evidence collection, risk scoring, audit narrative drafts and regulatory change watching, as listed in the published composition.
Boundary
Moves and summarizes evidence; it never concludes on a control.
Module responsibilities
| Module | Platform | Responsibility in this solution | Hands on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Risk & Compliance | iShield Nexus | Keeps the technology risk register, policies and time-bound exceptions, and suggests operational records as evidence for IT controls. | Accepted evidence links and exception decisions |
| Change Management | iShield Nexus | Records approvals, assessments and post-implementation reviews on every change. | Change approval evidence |
| Vendor Management | iShield Nexus | Runs supplier risk assessments and reassessment reviews for technology suppliers. | Supplier assessment evidence |
| Analytics Hub | iShield Nexus | Reports technology control status and trends for management review. | Control-status views for audit committees |
Published composition, by owning platform
The modules in the solution's published composition, grouped by the platform that owns them.
iShieldGRC
Why this composition
GRC fails when policy, risk, control, audit, issues and regulatory change live in separate tools. With one control library in iShieldGRC, evidence is collected once and reused across the frameworks the organization chooses to map.
Cross-platform journey
From one control to an evidenced opinion
Follow one technology control through a cycle. Operational records enter on the left, the control ledger sits in the middle, and assurance runs on the right — each step owned by a named module.

Stage 1 of 8 · iShieldGRC Define the control
The control is written once with its owner, test approach and the obligations it serves.
- Decision
- The head of compliance approves the obligation mapping.
- Exception path
- A requirement with no matching control is raised as a gap, not silently mapped.
- Recorded as
- Control and mapping record
Next: Run the change in Change Management (iShield Nexus) — the work passes to another platform
This journey shows how responsibilities are intended to divide between the platforms. It describes an operating model, not a pre-built integration between them.
Decisions, exceptions and who owns them
Nexus-native capabilities complement, and do not replace, iShield GRC from iShield GRC Ltd.
| Decision | Accountable owner | Evidence recorded | Exception path |
|---|---|---|---|
| Map a control to an obligation | Head of compliance | Mapping rationale and the framework version it refers to | Conflicting requirements across frameworks are decided per framework and recorded. |
| Accept evidence as sufficient | Auditor | Workpaper with the linked operational records | Further evidence is requested from the control owner with a due date. |
| Accept a technology risk | Technology risk owner | Exception record with compensating measures and expiry | An expired exception returns for a new decision instead of lapsing. |
| Close a finding | Issue owner, validated by audit | Closure evidence linked to the corrective change | A failed re-test reopens the finding with its history intact. |
How control mappings are governed
Control-to-obligation mappings are authored, approved and versioned in iShieldGRC Controls Management by the compliance function. They are maintained governance content, not pre-built mappings. iShield Nexus supplies technology evidence only against controls the organization has chosen to map.
- Each mapping has a named owner and records the framework version it refers to.
- Nexus links an operational record to a control only after the control owner accepts the suggestion.
Regulatory context
Regulations and frameworks organizations in this domain commonly work with. Listed as context for planning, not as a certification, attestation or pre-built mapping.
Recognized practice behind the operating model
Mappings describe how the operating model aligns with recognized practice. They are not attestations or certifications.
The operating model follows the risk-management process of ISO 31000 and the governance objectives of COBIT 2019 on the Nexus side, where the accepted Risk & Compliance page carries those mappings. Audit practice itself is led by iShieldGRC; references to audit standards describe the practice the solution supports, not an attestation.
| Framework | Practice | How the solution operates | Relationship |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISO 31000:2018 | Risk identification, analysis, treatment, monitoring and review | Technology risks and exceptions are registered, treated and reviewed with owners and expiry dates.Mapped on the accepted Risk & Compliance page. | Compliance-supporting capability |
| COBIT 2019 | EDM03 Ensured risk optimization · APO12 Managed risk · MEA04 Managed assurance | Risk decisions and control-status reporting are recorded and reviewable by governance bodies.Mapped on the accepted Risk & Compliance and Analytics Hub pages. | Aligned practice |
| ISO/IEC 27001:2022 | Risk assessment and treatment; evidence supporting the Statement of Applicability | Technology control evidence from change, supplier and exception records supports the organization's own management system.Mapped on the accepted Risk & Compliance page; the organization remains responsible for its management system. | Compliance-supporting capability |

What changes for the organization
Outcomes are described qualitatively. Figures are published only once evidenced.
Evidence gathered as work happens
Control owners stop rebuilding approvals and assessments for each audit cycle.
Findings that reach closure
Every deficiency has an owner, a due date and a link to the change that fixes it.
Technology risk in plain view
Exceptions carry expiry dates, so accepted risks return for decision instead of lapsing.
Supplier risk known before sampling
Overdue technology supplier reassessments surface in operations, not in the audit.
What sets this solution apart
Evidence at the source
Operational records are linked to controls where they are created, through an accepted suggestion — not exported and re-filed.
A clear company boundary
iShieldGRC from iShield GRC Ltd. leads governance and audit; iShield Nexus contributes operational records and never presents itself as the audit platform.
Exceptions that expire
Accepted risks carry compensating measures and an expiry date, and return for decision automatically.
